This page gives you information for your application to Voila! Europe Theatre Festival. It is not a contract, and we may make adjustments to these details. The venues will formally contract successful applicants in June 2018.

WHAT IS THE VOILA! EUROPE THEATRE FESTIVAL?
Voila! is a pan-European theatre festival designed to break through borders, language barriers and cultural assumptions. Since 2012, the festival has presented multilingual performance from Europe & the UK for London's multicultural, multinational audiences.

WHY SHOULD I PARTICIPATE?
Voila! Europe is an opportunity for UK and European companies to present a new show or bring an existing show to a London stage, and even to develop a brand new piece in residency at the festival. Voila! Europe aims to attract press and industry attention for artists, and provide a platform for potential touring beyond the festival. With participating artists from London, the UK, and Europe, you’ll be able to create international connections and collaborations.

WHEN DOES THE FESTIVAL TAKE PLACE?
Voila! Europe will run from the 6 - 18 November 2018.

WHERE DOES THE FESTIVAL TAKE PLACE?
Performances take place across three venues in London: The Cockpit in Marylebone; Etcetera Theatre in Camden, and Applecart Arts in Newham. Our festival hub for satellite events will be Theatre Delicatessen’s Broadgate venue in Moorgate.

WHAT TYPES OF PERFORMANCES IS THE FESTIVAL LOOKING FOR?
We accept proposals for any genre of live performance: theatre, dance, comedy, music, stand-up, performance art, etc. You might have a show in a European language. You might have translated or adapted a European play. You might be a UK company with a piece of new writing featuring a cast or creative team from Europe. You might be a European company looking to bring your show to an international audience in London. You might have created a site-specific show or a kind of performance we haven’t thought of yet. If your work has a connection to Europe, we’d love to hear from you!

HOW LONG DOES MY PERFORMANCE NEED TO BE?
Most shows in the festival are 60 minutes long. We cannot programme performances under 45 minutes or over 75 minutes.

HOW MANY TIMES WILL MY SHOW BE PERFORMED?
Our venues offer a variety of options, up to 6 performances. Please see details on the Venues Page

DOES MY SHOW HAVE TO BE IN ENGLISH?
No; we welcome performances in any language. For shows that are less than 50% in English, we may ask you to provide surtitles and a surtitle operator.

WHAT DOES THE FESTIVAL PROVIDE?
Marketing:
- The festival will include your show image and information in our brochure, on the website, and in our social media marketing.
- We will arrange a photoshoot for companies in London, if your show needs an additional professional marketing image (you will need to provide at least one to begin with).
- We will support any social media activity you initiate to promote your show. When you tweet, we retweet to all our supporters. If you send email flyers, we will reuse them wherever we can.
- Although we can’t promise, we will arrange interviews and press releases about you and your show if we can. The more marketing materials you are able to provide us with, the more we are able to help.
- Although we cannot produce printed flyers or posters for individual companies, we will supply branding and Voila! Europe festival logos for you to use on all your publicity.

Box Office: We will provide box office services to sell tickets to your show online in advance (£10) and on the door (£12). Artists will keep 50% of the net box office receipts; please see more details of the box office split on the Venues Page.

Technical Support: The venues will provide a technician to run one tech rehearsal and all performances of each show.

Events: We will create opportunities for you to connect with the other artists performing at the festival, as well as members of the theatre industry and audiences. These events will include a festival meet & greet, satellite events such as talks and workshops, and a festival party.

Festival Pass: all participating cast and creative team members will have the chance to see the other performances in all venues across the festival.

WHAT DOES IT COST TO PARTICIPATE?
There is no fee to apply for the festival. If your show is selected, we will ask you for a £50 festival admin fee.  Each venue will make an 8% deduction from box office towards their admin costs and Festival overheads. Then you split net box-office 50/50 with the venue. There are no other costs or fees. Please see the Venues Page for more details.

WHAT DO I NEED TO PROVIDE?
The Show:
Artists are responsible for all costs associated with rehearsing and making their show. This may include performance rights, hiring the cast and creative team, design materials, insurance, etc.
 
Marketing:
Voila! Europe will market the Festival. We will do our very best to support your effort to market your show but you will need to help:
- Artists must prepare marketing materials. These might be pictures, trailers, posters, flyers, e-flyers, press releases but must include a hi-res image and a good translated description of their show. We expect artists to include Voila! Europe, Cockpit and venue logos on all publicity.
- Artists should set up and promote their show on Facebook, Twitter, and other social media platforms.
- We expect artists to be willing to attend a photo shoot and generally happy to cooperate with marketing requests for press interviews, social media promotions, and audience & events.
 
WILL THE FESTIVAL SUPPORT MY SHOW COMING FROM OUTSIDE OF
LONDON/THE UK?
We will do our best to support artists travelling from outside of London or outside of the UK, by helping you to access funding available through your country’s embassy or cultural attaché. The festival can also supply a letter confirming your participation to support other funding applications.

We encourage international companies to apply as early as possible, in order to allow time to coordinate additional support.

HOW CAN I APPLY?
We want to make it as easy as possible for artists to connect with us. You can choose to fill in the application form in writing, or make a video or audio recording (no longer than 12 minutes) answering the same questions.

The deadline to apply is 11:59PM GMT on 1 May 2018.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
We will contact all applicants by 1 June 2018 with our programming decisions. If you are invited to present your work at VOILA, we will ask you to confirm your participation by returning the signed venue contract (including show information and images) and paying the £50 festival fee by 15 June.
